As part of Prodapt’s GenAIinChennAI initiative, we welcomed Balaji Thiruvengadam, CTO of FarEye and a neuroplasticity researcher. He shared his expert opinions and how predictive AI is revolutionizing the logistics industry, particularly in the complex realm of last-mile delivery.
He illustrated the immense challenges faced in last-mile delivery in an interconnected world, namely – tight timelines (critical for customer satisfaction), diverse vehicle types, different-sized items, geographic nuances, and company-specific requirements. Events
like Black Friday or Big Billion sales bring massive spikes in demand, making the challenges more daunting.
Balaji explained how predictive AI tackles these issues by analyzing patterns and optimizing operations. For instance:
It anticipates demand spikes, ensuring efficient resource allocation. It also resolves errors, such as incorrect addresses, by identifying trends in delivery issues. It streamlines last-mile delivery, handling diverse requirements with precision.
He used multiple simple examples to explain the fundamentals of categorization and regression in predictive AI. Using a simple task like walking, he demonstrated, is a series of categorizations (should I turn left, or right?) and regression (how many steps forward?) The session provided valuable insights into AI’s potential to transform the logistics industry and offered practical AI-driven solutions that could effectively optimize last-mile delivery.
